Basics of Photography

First create a new document and make sure that the preset is international paper and the colour mode to be on RGB. The next things to do are find an image and save it then open it onto Photoshop. Once this is done it will open the image into a new tab so to move the image to the original one use the mouse tool and drag it onto the original document created.
So the image fits the size of the document it needs to be transformed. To transform the scale of an object press edit, transform and scale. When making the object bigger the shift button needs to be held down so when the image is transformed it will be in focus.
The next step is to make a duplicate of the layer and name it ‘working layer’ so that if the editing goes wrong there is a back up copy. To duplicate right click on the layer and press the duplicate icon, make sure to hide the original image, so it doesn’t interfere with editing, by pressing the eye icon next to the layer.
To delete the background behind the image like on a person use the quick selection tool and select the background then press the delete key to get rid of it. Afterwards create a new layer by clicking the square with a folded edge at the bottom of Photoshop on the right hand side. When the layer has been created a colour can be added by clicking the colour boxes on the left hand side of the screen.

The to add text press the T tool on the left hand side and to add a stroke or outline to the text press on the text box in layers.

Framing Ideas

Feature Story Ideas

Upcoming Events
This may make someone more likely to buy this magazine because it shows that the magazine is informative and will give a heads up to upcoming events so students can get involved if they want.

Sport Teams
This would be appealing to students that are sporty and do sport. It would also appeal to students who want join sports teams without doing sport as a subject.

Making a schedule to manage time
This would appeal to new students especially who have just completed their GCSE's. As there is a massive jump between year 11 and 12 and the work load a schedule for time management would be very useful and would help the student cope more.

Use free's to the max
This would advise the audience to use their free periods more wisely and show them that spending time with friends is fun but getting good grades to help with the future is more important.

Competition
This would appeal to the audience because it gives them the chance to win something for free that would help them in their future studies and courses chosen. This would bring in a wider audience to read the magazine.

How to cope with stress- A student story
This would appeal to my target audience because A-levels are very stressful and some students don't know how to cope. By having a personal story of how a student overcame the stress to achieve the best they can will show the audience they can as well and to persevere.

Managing time- A student story
This would appeal to the audience because it would be another personal story of how a student was able to manage their time instead of hearing from a member of staff of how to it would be a student which would have more of an impact.

Things to do that relieve stress
This would appeal to students because college life is very stressful and it would give them ideas of what to do to relieve some of the stress, calming them down and making it easier to concentrate on work instead of stressing about not getting it done in time.

Extra curricular activities
This would appeal because it would give students an insight into extra activities that are available, at student prices, that can be done to use up some spare time but still be engaged.

Student opinions on college life
This lets the students give their opinion on what college is like and how it is different. This would attract more of an audience and would make the students active members of the audience.

Name Ideas

I have decided to use the name Balance for my college magazine. This is because in my magazine will be tips and tricks on how to balance college, work and friendships. I am doing this so that I can reach a wide audience of college students as a lot do tend to struggle with balance.

There are five concepts that are needed in media studies:

Language- Codes like colours are used in the media industry to give a meaning and help us understand the product.

Institution- The orgonisations responsible for the production, marketing, distribution or regulation of media texts. Institutes regulate and structure media activities.

Ideology- A set of attitudes, values and beliefs held in common by a group of people and culturally reproduced.

Audience- Groups or individuals targeted by producers for the intended audience that will consume the text.

Representation- The process whereby the media construct versions of people, places and events in images, words or sound for transmission through media texts to an audience.
